FY2021 CTE Improvement Grant

This grant package is designed to support the improvement and innovation of career and technical education (CTE) programming throughout the Illinois community college system. The selected focus areas align with the Illinois State Plan for CTE, statewide need, and national initiatives in CTE. Grant recipients will be able to choose from the three improvement project areas below. These project areas are general in nature to provide for local innovation and flexibility in implementation. Each objective adheres to Section 135 of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V).

Grant Objectives:

  2. Providing Student-Centered Support Services
  3. Strengthening the CTE Educator Pipeline

FY2021 Integrated Education and Training Grant

This grant is designed to support the development, improvement, and scale of integrated education and training (IET) programs. The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) is dedicated to the expansion and improvement of career pathways through programming such as IET.  IET is defined as a service approach that provides adult education and literacy activities concurrently and contextually with workforce preparation activities and workforce training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster for the purpose of educational and career advancement [Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Sec. 203(11)]. In Illinois, this is often referred to as the Integrated Career & Academic Preparation System (ICAPS). The objectives of this grant adhere to Section 125 of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) as well as Sections 203 and 231 of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act under Title II, Adult Education and Family Literacy.

Competency-Based Education Grant

This grant is designed to create and support Early Childhood Education competency-based education programs and projects in the community college system. Competency-based education focuses on determining a student’s achievement by evaluating proficiency within a set of learning outcomes and objectives moving away from traditional time-based constraints. Through this grant project, grantees will have access to Mursion Technology, a virtual reality simulation platform, in order to pilot their competency-based early childhood education programming. The overarching goal of the grant is to support community college Early Childhood Education programs in enhancing quality and contextualized work-based learning opportunities for early childhood education students through competency-based projects. This project is supported in part by funding from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation in partnership with INCCRRA.

Competency-Based Education in Early Childhood Education Grant Opportunity
The ICCB will be holding a technical assistance webinar for the Competency-Based Education in Early Childhood Education Grant Opportunity on June 3, 2020 at 2 p.m. CST. Interested participants will learn more about the grant opportunity, participate in a Mursion Technology demonstration, and be able to ask questions to ICCB or Mursion Technology as they prepare their grant applications. Interested grantees should encourage all grant team members, including Information Technology staff to participate. The webinar will be recorded for later viewing.
