Oscar Sanchez serves as a Senator for the Student Government Association (SGA) at Harold Washington College, a branch of City Colleges of City (CCC); the largest community colleges system in Illinois and one of the largest in the nation with more than 80,000 students annually enrolled. This is where he has promoted the funding towards the STEM fields, mental wellness, creative arts, LGBTQ, women’s empowerment, business stimulation, professional development, career placement, cultural awareness and international diplomacy; all in pursuit to further inform and educate college students outside of their courses.
Aside from SGA, Oscar is President of the Organization of Latin American Students, member of STEM club, and Member of United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA). Oscar is constantly finding ways in order to voice student concerns and issues in levels beyond his Chicago campus. He participated in the “Encuentro” (get to know) a 2018 Illinois Governmental Candidate Forum in collaboration with non-profits, in which he advocated for funding towards Domestic Violence programs, Map Funding, Reduction in Property Tax laws, and immigrant rights.
When he isn’t advocating for student rights, he is volunteering on the campus, and/or establishing relationships with local businesses and organizations. Aside from this, he makes sure to always make time for his family and friends. Oscar is most proud of being a 1st generation college student and role model to his siblings.
