John Bambenek was appointed to the Illinois Community College Board in 2017. He currently works as a lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he teaches several cybersecurity courses. He also works as the Manager of Threat Systems at Fidelis Cybersecurity where he researches global organized computer crime and consults all around the world with national law enforcement agencies to assist in prosecution of cybercriminals.
John founded the Tumaini Foundation, a charitable organization that provides educational and humanitarian assistance in rural Tanzania and the Ivory Coast. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Astronomy and Physics.
