Joliet Junior College Hosts Annual Technology Camp for Students

Joliet Junior College recently held its popular Technology Camp for students in grades 6 to 8. The three-day Summer camp, for boys and girls, provides students with an opportunity to explore various Technical career pathways in a hands-on environment. Technical areas include: Architecture, Engineering and Construction, Automotive, Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD), Electrical, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Manufacturing, Orthotics & Prosthetics, Robotics and Welding. 3D Printing in the MakerLab was added this year to showcase the innovative technology.

Students are taught by JJC’s Technical professors who share knowledge and experience in their respective areas. The camp also emphasizes the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (S.T.E.M.) and how it impacts the world around us. Boys Technology Camp was held July 19-21, 2016; while the Girls Technology Camp was held July 26-28, 2016. It was a milestone year for the girls camp, as JJC hosted the largest number of female students since the program began a few years ago.

Technology Camp is part a collaborative effort between JJC’s Technical Department and Corporate & Community Services’ Kids College to raise awareness about potential career pathways.
