United States and State of Illinois Constitution Tests

An examination on American Patriotism and the principles of representative government as enunciated in the American Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America, and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, as well as on the proper use and display of the American Flag is required for issuance of the Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate.

1. Where in Cook County can I take the Constitution Test?

Illinois residents may take the Constitution Test through an approved Adult Education Program, a Regional Office of Education or other ICCB approved testing site. No fee should be charge for this examination.

In Cook County, the following sites offer the Constitution examination to the public. Please contact the site directly for available dates and times.  (Call ahead, as hours are subject to change without notice.)

2. How do I prepare for the Constitution Test?

3. I’ve already passed the Constitution Test; do I have to retake it?

If you previously passed the Constitution examination in high school, an authorized Adult Education Program, or at a Regional Superintendent’s Office, have the institution send an original letter or transcript to the following address:

The letter or transcript must be an original dated document on the institution’s letterhead form. This letter or transcript must include YOUR name, social security number, date of birth, and the date you passed the examination.
