The Illinois community college system is committed to preparing a workforce with both the academic and technical skills needed to successfully compete in the world market. The community colleges ability to train citizens for the workforce needs of today AND tomorrow is critical to help Illinois reach its workforce and economic development goals. As partners with workforce and economic development, community colleges strengthen the economic base and "reskill" Illinois' workforce by helping adults prepare for the world of work or upgrade their work skills by providing opportunity for the development of higher levels of literacy, basic academic skills and occupational/technical skills. Community colleges are the largest provider of workforce training in the state. ICCB and community colleges view workforce development and economic development as interrelated and integral to our overall mission as outlined as goal 1 in the "PROMISE". To address the many workforce and economic development issues affecting the citizens of Illinois, the ICCB, the community colleges, and adult education providers work in partnership with other state, regional and local entities to link education with workforce and economic development. By responding to the workforce issues and needs in Illinois, the Illinois community college system is looked to as the entity to meet the constantly changing needs of business, industry, and healthcare.
