PHS 103 (Physical Geology), PHS 104 (General Chemistry)

Description

Using a downloaded plug-in called CHIME and a web browser, this module allows mineral structures (or any molecular compound) to be viewed and manipulated in 3-D. By comparing the animations with actual specimens, a student can explore the relationship between a mineral's crystal shape and its structure.

Transferability

This course will transfer to introductory earth science, physical geology, general chemistry, or any course in which students have to visualize complex molecular structures.
