Faculty Technology Skills
Faculty need to know how to run programs on a TI-83 Plus graphing calculator and how to
access pages on the Internet. Faculty may also need to be able to download a program and
install it on their computer or server. They should be familiar with transferring programs
from a PC to the calculator or know how to enter a program into the calculator.
Student Technology Skills
Students need to know how to run programs on a TI-83 Plus graphing calculator and access pages
on the Internet. Students may also need to be able to download a program to their PC and transfer
it to their calculator or know how to enter a program into the calculator.
Faculty Equipment
The faculty member needs to have a TI-83 Plus and a link cable to transmit the program (if needed).
A java capable browser is also required along with Internet access. The program, GUESSR, will need
to be entered or downloaded from another calculator. The program is available at
http://www2.lc.edu/mathsci/kbodden/guessr.83p.
Once downloaded, the program can be transferred to a calculator using TI-Graph Link.
Student Equipment
The students need to have their own TI-83 Plus and a link cable to transmit the program (if needed).
A java capable browser is also required along with Internet access. The program, GUESSR, will need to
be entered or downloaded from another calculator or the Internet. If downloading off of the Internet,
the student will need access to TI-Graph Link in order to transfer the program to their calculator.
Cost
The only cost involved with this module should be that of the calculator (about $100), if needed, and a
TI-Graph Link (at least for the instructor) that costs about $20. Students could purchase their own
TI-Graph Link if desired. Internet access and/or a computer might be additional costs, but students
typically have access to a computer lab or community library with Internet access at no charge.
