Guessing Correlations

Kevin Bodden
Lewis and Clark Community College

Course

MATH 145 (Elementary Statistics)

Description

This module helps students learn how to identify the strength and direction of the straight-line relationship between two sets of data. A calculator program will randomly generate scatterplots and draw the least-squares regression line through the data and the student is asked to guess the correlation of the data. At the end of the module, students can compete against each other using the Guessing Correlations applet developed in the statistics department at UIUC.

Transferability

This module will transfer to any introductory level statistics class, as well as any other class that involves data analysis (e.g., college algebra).
