Linear Approximation

David W. Collins, Jr.
Southwestern Illinois College

Course

First semester calculus

Description

This module helps the introductory calculus student visually see how the linearization of a function is used to approximate the value of a function that is sometimes difficult or impossible to evaluate. Through the applet, they should be able to pick up the concept of good approximations using the tangent line to a curve around a small neighborhood about the point of tangency.

Transferability

This module will transfer to any introductory calculus course.
