Dr. Sylvia Jenkins

Dr. Sylvia M. Jenkins became the fifth president of Moraine Valley Community College in 2012. She holds a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies with a specialization in Community College Leadership from Colorado State University, an MLS/Master of Library Science from State University of New York at Albany, and a B.S. in English Education from Grambling State University.

She serves on boards of the League for Innovation in the Community College and the Community Colleges for International Development (CCID), the Cook County Workforce Innovation Board, Ferris State University’s Doctorate in Community College Leadership (DCCL) Advisory Board, among other community service and advisory boards. She is a member of the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents and the Cook County Workforce Innovation Board. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Moraine Valley and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations selected Dr. Jenkins as its 2021 Pacesetter of the Year Award. In June 2021, she received the Advocacy Award from the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. Additionally, she was selected by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) for its District 3 Pacesetter of the Year Award, which recognizes a community college chief executive who demonstrates special leadership and support of college communications and marketing initiatives. In December 2018, the Council for Advancement in Support of Education (CASE) presented Dr. Jenkins the CASE V Chief Executive Leadership Award.

Dr. Jenkins was a co-presenter for a League for Innovation webinar (2020), invited keynote speaker for North Park University’s virtual Assessment Conference (2020), and a panelist for Governors State University’s Summer Institute (2019). Also in 2019, she was a panelist for the Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) Executive Leadership Forum and the League for Innovation’s Innovations Conference. She has been an invited faculty member of the League for Innovation’s Executive Leadership Institute/ELI (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019)

She and husband Craig have four daughters: Carmen, Courtney, Christine, and Carol, and 10 grandchildren.
