I've lived in Woodlawn, Illinois my entire life. Like my four older brothers, I also went to Woodlawn Grade School and Woodlawn High School, my freshman year. My first year of high school was a lot of fun. I had so many things to be proud of such as having my older brother, a senior, as my personal bodyguard or the fact that I was the only female deer hunter in the entire school. Life was going great, until I returned for my sophomore year. By the end of my first day I knew that I would not be back. Without going back I knew I would some day need to get my GED. That day came a year later when I saw a Rend Lake College flyer for free GED classes. I called the number for information and within a week I was a full fledged student. And with my teachers' help, my dream of having my GED was no longer a dream but a reality within a matter of six months. Now that I have my GED, I am planning on going this fall to Rend Lake College for general studies. After my general studies I will attend Forest Park Community College where I will receive my Funeral Directors Licenses. And with my Licenses I will live in a nearby funeral home where I will be of service to my community for many years to come.

- Bonnie Mischke

About Bonnie as submitted by Yuonne Hallam, GED Instructor RLC Market Place Rend Lake College Ina, Il

Bonnie Mischke entered the Adult Education program at the Mt. Vernon Rend Lake College Market Place in August 2003.

She came into the classroom with a little apprehension, but with a great desire to learn and be successful.

While Bonnie attended class, she displayed characteristics of discipline, dedication, cooperation, persistence, and respect. She was appreciative of any guidance and assistance that she received from a fellow student, tutor, or instructor. Bonnie attended regularly and was self-motivated. Bonnie had a goal to reach.

However, as Bonnie and her family recognize, it wasn't as easy as it sounds.

Bonnie took the GED test at the Jefferson County Regional office, and as they say, "the rest is history".

Not only did Bonnie receive her diploma, she was received into the National Adult Education Honor Society in a ceremony conducted at the RLC Market Place where she was awarded a NAEHS pin and certificate for her outstanding performance in the classroom.

In addition, Bonnie is the recipient of the Rend Lake College GED Student Tuition Waiver.

Bonnie has now set for herself new goals, and with the help of the tuition waiver she will be able to work toward achieving them.
