ICCB Board Meeting- Friday, June 5, 2009

At the June 5, 2009 ICCB Board Meeting several certificates of recognition and congratulations were awarded to various Illinois community college faculty, staff, and students.

Three distinguished individuals from Richard J. Daley College were acknowledged.  Dr. M. Vali Siadat received the Deborah and Franklin Haimo Award for distinguished teaching of mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America. James B. Hearn was selected as the 2009 Illinois Paul Simon Adult Learner of the Year. Gerardo Lopez received the 2009 Arthur J. Stejskal Memorial Teacher of the Year Award from the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association and the 2009 Excellence in Education Award from City Colleges of Chicago.

Two outstanding students were also recognized for their numerous accomplishments. Andrea Andrada, from Elgin Community College, served on the Program Advisory Committee for the ICCB 2009 Student Advisory Committee and was featured in USA Today for being named to the First Team of the All-USA Community College Academic Team. She was also named the New Century Scholar for the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa. The ICCTA also awarded Ms. Andrada the Gigi Campbell Student Trustee Excellence Award.

Christopher Brunson, from Lake Land College, was acknowledged for serving as the 2009 ICCB Student Board Member.
